Name change

If I had the chose to rename myself I would probably pick the name Sapphire because Sapphires are a
very beautiful stone that comes in many different colours.

Serena Williams

Three things I learnt about Serena Williams:

  1. Serena has 4 sisters.
  2. She has had to play against her sister, Venus, in many tournaments.
  3. She had a health problem which many people thought she would not play again, but she did.
One thing I would still like to know about Serena is... If you lose against your sister how do you control your disappointment?

My dream job

Questions for Steven Adams

Here are 3 questions I have for Steven Adams:

  1. How many times do you practice in a week?
  2. What is it feel like to run out into a basketball stadium with the crowds cheering?
  3. Do you ever get nervous and how do deal with it?

Superpowers

      My superpowers would be...

  1.  Talking to animals. So I can understand animals better. I would use it to talk to animals to see how their feeling.
  2.  Flying. It would feel really cool to fly. I would use it to help with global warming by not using a car.
  3. Stay small forever. So I won't grow out of my pony. My pony is small so I need to stay small to ride her.

Brave pony

Last January me and my pony Rosie went on a pony camp in Reefton.  One day we went swimming in a river nearby.  Rosie was very brave to go into the ice cold water and actually swim with me on her back.  After we swam, we had to walk back through a trucking company site with lots of noisy trucks and machines working.  Rosie spooks a lot at things because she is scared of them because of her wild instincts.  But she was very brave and walked past them that day.

Poem for 1st step on moon

I am so excited this is my first time in space
Going so fast but no wind in my face
So pretty up here, as the moon looms
Big and round, shiny and smooth
Landing with a thud
Hopefully there is no mud!
Climbing down the ladder
Landing with a bump
First step feels like floating
Then I jump up and down gloating
This is the first step on the moon.

She tried to fly around the world

Charity interested in

The charity I am interested in is the RDA (Riding for the Disabled).

The RDA started in 1962 in Hawkes Bay.  There is a local RDA on the West Coast in Hokitika.  At the RDA people that need to go for various reasons get to ride ponies.  This gives them more confidence as riding ponies is a great thing to do and relaxes you.

My family culture

My family culture

In my family we all speak English.  My family all comes from New Zealand.

My Mum's side of the family has a lot of farming in their history with almost everyone riding horses.  Horses are special to me too.  My Dad's side of the family are interested in sport and music and this is what my brother is interested in as well.

Setting Sail - day 1

                                      Day 1 - Setting Sail

If I was invited to join Nainoa for three weeks at sea and was asked to pack my own food and there is NO fridge or nfreezer then I would take these foods:

  1.  WATER - We need water to survive!
  2.  Dehydrated meat - This would give you good protein.
  3. Potatoes - Good filling food that doesn't go off.
  4. Canned Tuna - Some more meat but must be kept in the can.
  5. Apples - A fruit.
  6. Carrots - Good vitamins.
  7. Pasta - Stays good for a while.
  8.  Rice - Stays good for a looong time.
  9. Dry apricots -  A dehydrated food.
  10. Corn flakes - Good breakfast food.
  11. Hard sweets -  A little treat food.

Fundraise ideas

                                                 Fundraise ideas
Here are three ideas for raising funds in New Zealand.
  • Organise a week long Pony Trek from West Coast through to Hanmer and charge people to go on it.
  • Organise a fun day at the local lake for swimming and races.
  • Organise a party for the town for everyone to come too.  Donations from this would go to the Great Barrier Reef.

Polluted Rivers

                                                 Polluted Rivers
The name of one river that is polluted is the Selwyn River in Canterbury.  It is polluted from Nitrogen from the farms around it. To clean up the river the farmers are being told to reduce nitrogen on the farms.

The Grey River in Greymouth is also sometimes polluted.  The problem is raw sewage is discharged into the Grey River after lots of rain.  They are working on fixing the sewage system to stop this.

Fishing

                                                  Fishing
I think that $100,000 is too much to charge people for overfishing as the sign might have been blown over and they didn't see it. I would recommend changing them $1000 for the first time and then $10,000 for the next, then $100,000.

Selfie

                                                              Selfie picture

In this picture a girl is standing on top of a bridge taking a selfie.  Behind her is a river and a township.  I think they are on holiday there as she is really keen to take selfies and pictures of a beautiful place.  It could be dangerous to take a selfie there because it looks like there is a big drop behind her.  The place could be Venice as Venice has lots of water around it.
I have never taken a selfie before.

The WWF

A name for a green pool

A name for a green pool

Here are my top 5 names for a green, stinky pool:

  • The Internal Stench  ★
  • Green Revenge
  • Broccoli Soup
  • Shrek's bath
  •  The green water monsters pillow

Milford sound

                                               Milford sound

I would like to go to the Milford sound in a boat. I would go in a boat because I could jump of into the sea and swim beside the boat. I would also like to go on a boat to the Milford sound because I might see a dolphin and some other cool sea animals.

The Colossale Squid maths prodlem

                                              The Colossale Squid maths problem

If I had a to move a Colossale Squid with adults and kids I would use 16 adults and 7 kids. I worked this out by 4 adults could 100kg (4x25=100) If I had 16 adults they could take 400kg. That leaves 100kg for the kids. 6x15=90 so there is one kid that has to take 10kg. It would take 16 adults and 7 kids to move the Colossale Squid.

My favourite food

                                                           My favourite food

One of my favourite meals is Tacos.  The ingredients you need to make Tacos is
  • Mince
  • Onion
  • Taco packet which has Taco shells and sauce.
  • Avocado
  • Tomato
  • Carrot
  • Cheese
  • Lettuce

Night owls and early rises

                                             Night owls and early rises

I am a night owl. I like to stay up late and read books. Sometimes when I turn the light off instead of going to sleep I think about stuff like "What am I going to the pony camp" or "What can I do to get better at horse riding. My Dad is a night owl too. I look a lot like more like farther when he was younger. My Mum is a early riser. She gets up at half past 5 to walk the dog. My Mum oftener goes to bed at 9:00 pm. My little brother (Mitchell) is a early riser like Mum. when he was a baby he got up at 5:00 am every morning (groan). Now Mitchell gets up at 6:00 am.

Strange plants

This plant is the Rafflesia Arnoldii.

This is the Corpse Flower.
The three similarities between the 2 plants are
  • They both smell bad
  • They are both big plants
  • They are both a reddish colour.
The three differences between the 2 plants are
  • Corpse flower is much taller
  • Corpse flower only flowers once every 40 years. This is because the Corpse flower many years to build up energy.
  • The Rafflesia has white spots on its leaves

Mighty Rosie

                                              Mighty Rosie

The person I picked was Rosie (my pony). I picked Rosie because she has a strong mind and knows what she wants. Rosie is also strong because she can pull people down the drive way when she wants to get to food.  I think Rosie is tough because if she has a stone in her hoof she still jumps around the pony club.

Flax weaving

                                                   Flax weaving

I have done flax weaving before and I like it. I like flax weaving because your doing something with your hands and its also nice to make something on a rainy day.
