Freshwater seals

                                     Freshwater seals

The name of the animal the WWF is working to save is the freshwater seals. The WWF is trying to save this animal because there is only 360 animals left.  The WWF is building snow banks so the pups have some protection against the cold and predators. In previous years half the pups died, but by using snow banks last year 73 out of 82 survived.

  1. Dear Alicia,
I think your facts are very interesting. What a great project that the WWF is undertaking by building snow banks. I wonder if you think our school should get involved in the Paparoa Wildlife Trust with the Kiwi? I'd love to know your answer on this.

  2. Hi Alicia

This is a great project that the WWF is doing to save these freshwater seals. It is awesome that they are having some success with it also. It is really important to save species like these.
I see that your Principal has commented and asked you about getting involved with the local wildlife trust and working with the kiwis. This would be fantastic!
I would love to work with some of our native animals and working with the kiwis would be an amazing experience.
We have so many seals on our coastline around New Zealand it would be great to see this the case for the freshwater seal too.
It looks so cold where they are.

Great work Alicia. Keep up the great work!

    Until next time

    Allie :)
