Three fun facts about New Zealand

Three fun facts about New Zealand

1. The Maori name of New Zealand is Aotearoa which means the land of the long white cloud.

2. It is one of the three countries in the world that has two official national anthems of equal standing.  The first is God Save the Queen and the other is God Defend New Zealand.

3. It was the first major nation to have universal suffrage. In 1893 all male and female citizens are legally allowed to vote.

  1. Hi Alicia

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey for 2018. Its really great to see that you have finished your first post. Well done! My name is Allie and I am the cluster manager for Toki Pounamu and I will be commenting with you over the summer. I am really looking forward to reading your posts over the summer.

We live in a pretty cool place here in New Zealand. I think it is really cool that we have two national anthems. It makes us really unique in the world. I also like that the national anthems are quite often followed by the haka at big sporting events like the rugby!
Do you like singing the national anthem at school?

Aotearoa is a great name for New Zealand as we really do look like a long white cloud.

Well done Alicia, I cant wait to see what you do next. Remember to make each answer at least 3 sentences long and you can add images or colour to make things more interesting for people to read.

    Until next time

    Allie :)

  2. Kia Ora Alicia,
I think it is really cool that we now sing the national anthem at our assemblies. It reminds us of our wonderful country. Enjoy your blogging this summer Alicia.
